Stargate Universe Preview Clip

Here's an extended preview clip from the first episode of Stargate Universe:

STARGATE UNIVERSE - Episode 01

Dr. Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle) may not replace the Colonel O'neil in my fan heart, but he'll be more than fine to fill in the job as my new favorite TV sci-fi hero!

Syfy Stargate Universe Trailer

SyFy has released a new trailer of Stargate Universe, and at long last but not least, we have the real deal! Oh Good, fool I was to doubt that Stargate Universe would be awesome. Enjoy below the new Stargate Universe trailer:

STARGATE UNIVERSE Comic Con Trailer

A gateway that was supposed to bring them home...
took them to the other side of the universe!

From the makers of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis
comes the story of a group of survivors,
who have lost everything...
Except hope!
This Fall
New Worlds, Ancient Mysteries, Extraordinary Adventure.

Where will Destiny take you?

I really like this new take on the Stargate franchise. Stargate Universe is much more mature than the tho other series: it will for sure mark the Stargate franchise for the best. And my geek soul was damn happy to see Richard Dean Anderson as Jack O'Neill appearing at the beginning of this Stargate Universe trailer!

Here's another Stargate Universe trailer shown during the comic con:

By the way and Stargate Universe is now scheduled to debut on October 2, 2009 as a two-hour movie and then begin regular weekly airings on Syfy in the United States in October 2009.

SyFy released an series of interesting SGU character profiles that give away interesting tidbits about Stargate Universe:

Dr. Camille Wray (Ming-Na)

Dr. Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle)

Eli Wallace (David Blue)

Matthew Scott (Brian J. Smith)

I love Robert Carlyle's accent, hope he will keep in Stargate Universe!

Good that Ming-Na reassures us that we will still get action and aliens!

New Stargate Universe Trailer

The latest trailer of Stargate Universe, aka SGU, is somewhat better than the previous one, well it does rekindle my interest in SGU:

Stargate Universe - Survive
This October, Syfy reinvents the wheel

So they're going to survive, they're even going to make it home. Well, I think so too: it wouldn't be a series faithful to the Stargate franchise if the heroes were doomed at the end.

Stargate Universe SGU Trailer

A new Stargate Universe trailer has shown up, and I can't say I'm hooked... Well, check for yourself:

SG-U

Home: A memory
Safety: a myth
Trust: a mistake

The only mission is survival!

I really dislike this watery music in the background: it really spoils this Stargate Universe trailer. And because of this ill-chosen soundtrack I'm already pissed off by the whining chubby boy in red shirt (David Blue as Eli Wallace)...

Can't leave on such an impression so I turned off the sound, and guess what: it saves the thing! I had more focus on details , and I'm more confident that this is indeed a show spawned from the Stargate franchise.

Really what were they thinking about when releasing this trailer of Stargate Universe: do they want to kill the show even before it starts to air?

Stargate Universe SyFy Sizzle Reel 2009

Here's Syfy's sizzle reel 2009 in which they show off their line up for 2009, basically it's a look at the upcoming TV shows, arriving this year on SyFy... And lucky us, there is a brief footage of Stargate Universe featuring Dr. David Rush (played by Robert Carlyle):

So, I was not joking when I told you it was brief, but hey, not that much Stargate Universe material online so far, so let's enjoy this bit.

Stragte Universe Trailer

SGU - Stargate Universe - Sci-Fi ChannelSyFy has aired a trailer of Stargate Universe after the final episode of Battlestar Galactica. Here it is:

STARGATE UNIVERSE

The only mission is survival.

"Stargate Universe aims to delight veteran fans, but also appeal to newcomers who may not necessarily know the difference between an Alteran and an Asuran. In many ways it is a much more cerebral and mature addition to the franchise. While firmly entrenched in pre-established Stargate mythology, Stargate Universe definitely strikes out in an exciting new direction."
Stargate Atlantis producer Joseph Mallozzi

If this short preview clip of Stargate Universe is a significant sample from the show then SGU will be darker than the rest of the franchise, and indeed somewhat more mature. Maybe sthis new direction has been influenced by the success of BSG.
Well, I don't mind: I say bring it on! The sooner Stargate Universe will start to air the better it will be!

Stargate Universe Cast and Characters

Stargate Universe CastThanks to an early character breakdown that leaked online and thanks to some other legit sources we get to know the characters of the upcoming sci-fi TV series Stargate Universe:
(NB: updates are still likely, so the character list may change.)

- Everett Young – Described as "40's [sic] handsome, capable, former SG team leader" holding the rank of Colonel who is "like the Jack O'Neill of ten years ago", yet with sharper edges. At the beginning of Stargate Universe, he has been married for two years and is the temporary commander of a secret off-world base.

- Tamara Jon – An SGC field medic in her early twenties with off-world experience. She has a modest background, yet is "beautiful, tough, smart, capable." At the beginning of the series, she is overwhelmed by the lack of medical knowledge, experience, medicine and supplies aboard the ship.

- Walker – A "stunning and sexy" daughter of a US Senator around her twenties, whose character is tested "after her father's tragic death and the dire circumstances of being trapped on a spaceship". Her father had "the political oversight to this Stargate project trying to dial the ninth chevron".

- Eli Hitchcock – A "total slacker" in his early twenties and an "utter genius" in mathematics, computers and other fields. He is a social outcast with an "acerbic sense of humor", and lacks confidence in his intelligence. The character breakdown compares him to "Matt Damon's character from Good Will Hunting with a little Jack Black thrown in".

- Scott – A skilled and well-trained Junior SGC member in his early twenties holding the rank of Lieutenant. He is "mentally unprepared for the urgency of the situation" aboard the ship.

- Ron "Psycho" Stasiak – A "big, strong, silent" marine aged 20 with a mysterious past who lacks control over his temper in non-combat situations. The character breakdown compares him to Eric Bana's character "Hoot" in Black Hawk Down.

- Dr. David Rush, played by Robert Carlyle – First mentioned in Mallozzi's blog in mid-November 2008 as "he's going to be a handful", he is going to be "the ship's brilliant Machiavellian scientist". After casting reports in mid-December 2008 had described Carlyle's character as the next Stargate leader, Mallozzi rectified that he "is not the leader of the unplanned expedition. That honor falls to Colonel Everett Young. For now. But things could have a way of changing on board a ship manned by a disparate group with very different agendas...". Brad Wright confirmed Carlyle as a series regular (instead of recurring) in early January 2009.

- Senator Walker – In casting calls described as the "proud loving father" of Chloe Walker and a "distinguished Senator" in his 50s or 60s "who is the political oversight to this Stargate project trying to dial the ninth chevron". He is slated to appear in a two-episode arc.

- Camille Wray – An IOA accountant in her 30s to 50s who is now the highest ranking IOA member left stranded on the ship. She is a "possible recurring" character who has "a false sense of importance and superiority to the other military and civilian population along with a stubborn way of asserting it"

As of now only Robert Carlyle has been officially announced, but the other actors of the cast should be revealed in the coming weeks.

The character set sounds like a nice team that promises interesting interactions aboard the spaceship Destiny. The more I know about Stargate Universe the more I'm impatient to see it!

Stargate Universe The New Stargate TV Show

STARGATE UNIVERSELast Friday was the finale episode of Stargate Atlantis, which was a spin-off of the original SG-1 show. But that's not the end of the Stargate franchise, far from it! There are indeed a few Stargate Atlantis films ahead. And last but not least, the Sci Fi Channel has decided to treat us with Stargate Universe, a new television show that will be the third entity in the live-action Stargate franchise.

With filming beginning next February Stargate Universe should start regular weekly airings on SCI FI in Summer 2009. Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper will serve as executive producers and writers.

Like the first two series in the franchise, Stargate Universe will take place during the present time, not in the distant future. The show will be set on an Ancient ship, the Destiny, that was part of an Ancient experiment to seed the galaxies with Stargates millions of years ago but that was prematurely ended by the Ancients' ascension.
A second ship would follow up and explore, using the ninth and final gate chevron (whose purpose was previously unknown) to get to the first ship. A team of soldiers and scientists from Earth step through the Stargate to find the Destiny (which has a Stargate onboard) after their base is attacked. Unable to return to Earth, they must fend for themselves aboard the ship as it takes them to the far reaches of the universe.

The show will involve more space-based action than SG-1 or Atlantis, although Earth will play a part in SGU – but in a very unique way. "Survival and sacrifice" were the two main themes that were discussed at the preliminary script stages of the show. According to Brad Wright, the show will focus mostly on the people aboard the ship and will be getting away from ancient-seeded-humans. Hopefully exploring the truly alien, and avoiding the rubber faced English-speaking one. And unlike with SG-1 and Atlantis, there will be no single dominant villain race.

Stargate Universe seems more mature than the previous shows for some details: I must admit that the previous convention stating every new human or alien race was speaking English was bugging me a bit. I'd love to see a sci-fi show that really strives to overcome a language barrier instead of ignoring it (or of lamely using a universal translator like in Star Trek or Farscape...). Also if it's more serialized, then we may hope to really explore instead of jumping from tidbit to tidbit.

I must say I'm damn impatient to watch Stargate Universe! I hope they won't wait too long to show a teaser or even a trailer of Stargate Universe once filming gets kick started!
:)
